1) What's the difference between .ASS and .SRT, and why don't my subs appear properly on VLC?
2) .ASS-compatible players.
3) How to use my subs with VLC.
4) Extras in my subs: Prisoner of Love

--------------------------------------------------

1).ASS subs differ from .SRT ones in that they are rich in format and styles; that is, font types and colors, formatting, text positiong, and other visual effects (like karaoke).
Therefore, in order to use .ASS files you need a player that can interpret those styles. VLC, while a wonderful player, does not. If you use .ASS with VLC, it will result in overlapping subs, and you won't be able to enjoy your video properly.

2) What player would be good then? Here's a list of options (the first 2 are the ones I personally use):

-, Windows Media Player (http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/)
-, Zoomplayer CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/)
-, GOMplayer (http://www.gomlab.com/eng/)
-, Windows Media Player (tried version 11 only).

3) If you nonetheless wish to continue using VLC with my subs, please note that I release a .SRT file for every episode on my personal journal (http://suketeru.livejournal.com). Those usually get posted with the .ASS file, but at times it might get a little longer for me to edit them and make them VLC-compatible.

4) I've had many suggesting I add the translation of "Prisoner of Love" when it's played in the background in some scenes because it helps intensify the moments. I followed their suggestions, and I like the effect. But I understand some people might find that unnecessary or distracting. If you don't wish to have the translation of POL pop up, just open the .ASS file in notepad (or any other text edit program) and hit Ctrl-end to go to the bottom of the file. That's where POL lines are (either beneath or above the credits -I keep switching XD). Just delete those lines (but not the credits XD) and you'll be fine (^_^).
** POL translation is not inserted in .SRT file.
